Calif. Representative To Seek Presidency

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) on Thursday announced that he would seek the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, Copley/San Diego-Union Tribune reports (Lewis, Copley/San Diego Union-Tribune, 1/26).

In his campaign announcement in Spartanburg, S.C., Hunter highlighted his opposition to abortion rights and support for the war in Iraq and free trade. At a rally in Washington, D.C., earlier in the week, Hunter said he would not nominate federal judges who support abortion rights.

With regard to his health care positions, Hunter also opposes embryonic stem cell research.

Hunter has a 92% lifetime conservative rating from the American Conservative Union (Abruzzese, New York Times, 1/26).
