Editorial: Legislature Fails at 'Most Basic Responsibility'

The California Legislature "adjourned in shame early Wednesday, … leaving far too much of the people's business unfinished" and falling short of its "most basic responsibility -- to pass a budget," a San Francisco Chronicle editorial states. The editorial adds that "lawmakers' inaction on other matters" means that "children will be eating food from cans and bottles containing the chemical bisphenol-A" and that "[h]ealth insurers can keep driving up rates."

I don't think it is just me that wonders why the legislators are considering bills about the state rock or on-line poker playing but cannot focus on the most pressing issues facing our state. Partisan intransigence and constituent based pandering take precedence over addressing pension reform and passing a balanced, if not austere, budget. The citizens of California deserve a better Legislature. Tojo
