New Law Bans Insurers From Using Gender To Set Rates

A new state law (AB 119) that took effect Jan. 1 prohibits health insurers from setting rates for individual policies based on gender. Beth McGovern, legislative director for the California Commission on the Status of Women, said the law could affect up to one million women in the state.
