MedPAC Report Finds Most Medicare ED Visits Avoidable

Nearly 60% of emergency department visits and 25% of hospital admissions involving Medicare beneficiaries were "potentially preventable" if beneficiaries had received better care at home or in an outpatient setting, according to a report from the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.
