HHS OIG Report Finds Gaps in Nursing Home Disaster Plans

Nursing homes across the country are not adequately prepared to protect residents and provide continuing care during a natural disaster, according to a report from the HHS Office of the Inspector General. The report recommends that Medicare and Medicaid add specific emergency planning and training requirements to federal regulations on disaster preparedness for nursing homes.
