GAO Calls for Improvements in Meaningful Use Program
A Government Accountability Office report recommends that CMS take certain steps to improve its process for verifying that health care providers qualify for incentive payments through the meaningful use program. Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health record systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments. In the report, GAO suggests that CMS consider conducting more prepayment verifications for the Medicare meaningful use program.
