Legislation Would Help Credit Ratings Sunk by Medical Debt

Congress is considering legislation (S 2149, HR 2086) that would aid consumers who have low credit scores as a result of issues related to medical bills and medical debt. Collection agencies are allowed to keep records of medical debt on file for seven years, but the Senate bill would require those debts to be scrubbed within 45 days of being settled or paid. The House bill only would affect medical debts up to $2,500.

Well, I think it's a good new.Lots of people have troubles with paying off medical bills and of course these debts harm their credit score.But people with low credit score also need medical help, they just need more time to pay the bills .So hopefully this legislation will bring positive results and will make the medical debt less.Medical billing is complicated operation.So I think that government should provide more aid to people who need it and make medical billing system more clear.Everydody gets their money - insurance companies get theirs, collection agencies get theirs,hospitals get their, so the challenge is to protect the customers who pays money to all these institutions.
