More than $7 million in meaningful use incentive payments is being distributed to California health care providers, according the California Health Information Partnership and Services Organization, Becker's Hospital Review reports (Roney, Becker's Hospital Review, 6/5).
Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments.

CalHIPSO is one of 62 federally designated regional extension centers and is responsible for providing health information technology support to all of California except Los Angeles and Orange counties.
CalHIPSO is the largest federally designated REC in the U.S. It launched in 2010 with $33.2 million in federal grants (California Healthline, 5/10).
Meaningful Use in California
Speranza Avram, CEO of CalHIPSO, said, "EHR implementation in California is well underway, with over 7,700 providers in various stages of progress within CalHIPSO's membership."
Avram added that more than $65 million in incentive payments will be distributed in the months ahead to California physicians who meet meaningful use criteria (CalHIPSO release, 6/4).
