Californians Will Benefit From Reform, Opinion Piece Argues

In a Sacramento Bee opinion piece, Peter Lee -- executive director of the California Health Benefit Exchange -- writes that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act means that Californians "will all benefit by having a guarantee that we will never lose our insurance coverage, from lower costs, better preventive care and wellness, and a health insurance system that will be about keeping people well instead of avoiding sick people."

Middle-class care-mongering. Disingenuous to say the least. Fatuous, pretentious innuendo. And what's with the offensive patronizing? e.g. 'Hooray for them'(!)

What the writer--and others--may be missing is that California is a net loser when it comes to federal tax dollars, and the health reform law is likely to exacerbate the problem. On average, Californians receive about 79 cents for every dollar they send to Washington. This health law will be very expensive (I'm not trying to argue whether it's worth it or not) and we will pay more of its cost than any other state, based on tax data stretching back three decades. Sure, some Californians will benefit from this--hooray for them! But many middle class taxpayers in California will inevitably be required to ante up more to cover a ballooning deficit the program will cause. There really is no free lunch!
