Poll: More U.S. Voters Trust Democrats on Health Policy Decisions
Democrats hold a 10-percentage-point advantage over Republicans as the party that likely U.S. voters believe will make the best decisions regarding health policy and general health care matters, according to a recent poll by Morning Consult, The Hill's "Healthwatch" reports (Baker, "Healthwatch," The Hill, 6/11).
Poll Background
The health care media group's survey -- which was conducted by a bipartisan pair of pollsters from May 22 through May 26 -- drew responses from a national sample of 1,000 likely voters (Morning Consult poll, 6/11).
Poll Findings
According to the poll, 42% of respondents said they trusted Democrats more on health care issues, compared with 32% who trusted Republicans more.
A majority of the respondents said they were satisfied with their health care benefits, the poll found.
Most respondents agreed with the Republican view that cost is a bigger problem than the number of uninsured residents.
However, while 58% of respondents cited high costs as the biggest problem with the U.S. health care system, 60% said they were satisfied with how much they paid for coverage ("Healthwatch," The Hill, 6/11).
Morning Call is expected to release polling data on the Affordable Care Act on Wednesday and a public opinion poll on a series of health care and tax reform proposals on Thursday (Morning Consult poll, 6/11).
