Calif. Schools Receive Top Rankings for Medical, Health Specialties
Several California graduate schools have received top rankings for health-related areas of study in a list released by U.S. News & World Report, the Sacramento Business Journal reports (Robertson, Sacramento Business Journal, 3/12).
Details of Study
The rankings for medical disciplines were based on:
- A survey of medical school officials;
- Standardized test scores and GPAs of new enrollees;
- Faculty-to-student ratio;
- Acceptance rates; and
- Other criteria (U.S. News & World Report release [1], 3/10).
Rankings for health disciplines were based on peer assessments completed by school officials that rated program quality (U.S. News & World Report release [2], 3/10).
Calif. Schools' Rankings
Among graduate schools in California:
- UCLA was ranked first for clinical psychology;
- UC-San Francisco was ranked first for pharmacy and AIDS medical training; and
- The University of Southern California was ranked first for occupational therapy and physical therapy.
In addition:
- UCLA ranked fourth for geriatrics; and
- UCSF ranked third for family medicine and pediatrics, and fourth for nursing, nursing-midwifery and primary care (U.S. News & World Report rankings, March 2014).
