California Hospitals Make U.S. News’ ‘Best Hospitals’ List
Several California hospitals were included on U.S. News and World Report's "Best Hospitals 2014-2015" list, which was released Monday, U-T San Diego reports (Sisson, U-T San Diego, 7/14).

To compile the list, researchers analyzed data from nearly 5,000 hospitals and results from surveys of more than 9,500 doctors (U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014-2015, 7/14).
The rankings are grouped into 16 individual categories and are updated every July.
Hospitals that are not ranked nationally in a category but have scores in the top 25% of all analyzed providers are recognized as high-performing (Comarow, U.S. News and World Report, 7/15).
California Rankings
Three California providers were listed in U.S. News and World Report's "Honor Roll" for ranking highly in at least six categories:
- UCLA Medical Center;
- UC-San Francisco Medical Center; and
- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles (Leonard, U.S. News and World Report, 7/15).
California hospitals that were ranked in the top 10 in at least one category this year include:
- Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, which ranked sixth for gastroenterology and GI surgery, seventh for orthopedics, and eighth for cardiology and heart surgery;
- Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, which ranked 8th for psychiatry;
- Stanford Hospital and Clinics, which ranked 10th for cancer care;
- Stein and Doheny Eye Institutes at UCLA Medical Center, which ranked fifth for ophthalmology;
- UCLA Medical Center, which ranked third for geriatric care, fourth for urology, fifth for gastroenterology and GI surgery, seventh for neurology and neurosurgery, eighth for nephrology, eighth for rheumatology, ninth for cancer care, and ninth for diabetes and endocrinology;
- UC-San Diego Medical Center, which ranked sixth for pulmonology;
- UCSF Medical Center, which ranked fourth for nephrology, fifth for diabetes and endocrinology, fifth for neurology and neurosurgery, sixth for gynecology, sixth for urology, eighth for cancer care, eighth for ear, nose and throat care, and tenth for rheumatology; and
- University of Southern California Keck Medical Center's Eye Institute, which ranked ninth for ophthalmology (U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014-2015, 7/14).
