Health Care Industry Among Largest Donors to California Lawmakers
The health care industry was among the largest contributors to California lawmakers' fundraising efforts during the first half of 2015, according to recent campaign filings, the Sacramento Bee's "Capitol Alert" reports.
Between January and June, members of the California Legislature raised more than $24 million -- up from $18.5 million during the same period in 2013. The fundraising reflected nearly 18,000 individual contributions to more than 190 state and local committees.
Labor groups and the health care industry donated the most, followed by financial interest groups and various businesses, according to "Capitol Alert."
Meanwhile, lawmakers between January and June:
- Spent more than $14.4 million; and
- Donated $7.1 million to political parties and other campaign committees (Miller, "Capitol Alert," Sacramento Bee, 8/7).
